On the 2nd of November 2013, Y4TE teamed up with the newly founded NGO WAAO (We Are All One) and GUG (Gozo University Group) in order to carry out a clean up of the Wied ta Zejta Valley waters. The waters were full of a remarkable amount of plastic waste which not only created obstacles which restricted the flow of water but also made the valley very unsightly. Moreover, a family of ducks living in the water were at the risk of choking on small pieces of plastic.
Y4TE along with the other organisations used kayaks provided by Gozo Adventures in order to paddle through the water and retrieve all the waste. Through the hard work and dedication of all the people involved the clean up was a great success. People passing by were surprised by the fact that volunteers would willingly clean up someone else’s waste and this was
indicative of the mentality of many Maltese people.
It is a great shame that people still throw their waste out in the open rather than throwing it away in the bins provided. However it must be said that the mentality is slowly changing for the better since people are becoming more aware about the serious negative repercussions
both on the environment and ourselves.
